As it turned out, it was illegal to "own" Lucy in New Jersey.

Sadly we had to re-home her where she would be safe, comfortable and legal.

She is now enjoying life in the Carolina's

Patagonian Conures are listed as being a "dangerous species". Hard to believe huh?

The law lists the Patagonian Conure with other potentially dangerous animals (monkeys, bears etc.) the real problem seems to be they have the potential to become a "Agricultural Pest"

7:25-4.8 Potentially dangerous species

(a) "Potentially dangerous species" is defined as any exotic mammals, birds, reptiles or amphibians, or nongame species which, in the opinion of the Division, is capable of inflicting serious or fatal injuries or which has the Potential to become an agricultural pest, or a menace to the public health, or indigenous wildlife populations, including, but not limited to the following:

Psittaciformes Psittaculis spp.--Ring-necked parakeets Myiopsitta spp.-Monk parakeets Cyanoliseus patagon us-- Patagonian Conures

 

Lucy (formerly known as Road Runner) is a Patagonian Conure.
DNA tests confirm the bird as a "She" and is now known as Lucy
He/she is approximately 14 months old and just arrived here from Florida.
 
    
Lucy gets a bath, now she likes "swimming" in the sink
Lucy has a lot of friends!
