Recent changes to our site or the Porthole II

The Porthole II is scheduled for haul out on November 3, 2001
10/11/01After a month of respect for the FDNY Firefighters killed in the cowardly attack on our Country, 09-11-2001, I have raised our flag back to full staff and brought the web site back on line.

This is NOT our boat!

08/19/01We had a surprise dock party today

Nicolas is getting ready to crew!

Next year we'll tow it home!

05/19/01Today we tried again for the high tide. Although today's tide was supposed to be about 6" higher then the tide 2 days ago, once again it just never came in all the way.

Coming around the bend for the second try.

Sure looks like it will fit.

At this point the stern is floating and we still have 3000 pounds on the forward slings, just not enough water. We kept pushing & pulling and eventually the boat floated free of the pits grip, but not without doing $500+ dollars in damage to the port side.

05/17/01The scheduled launch did not happen today. The boat did not clear the travel lift ramp as we tried to launch. Launch has been rescheduled for Saturday at 6:40 pm.
05/15/01Mother Nature dealt us a bad hand with our scheduled launch for Wednesday, the 16th. Tuesday's high tide did not bring enough water into the river for us to "splash". So, I re-scheduled for the 17th. We'll see what Wednesdays high tide brings in.

I added a PowerPoint presentation of a "bridge versus tug". This slide show appears to have been taken in the mid 60's.

Also added a short video of how Not to anchor.  Watch the deck hand!

05/10/01Sadly, last night another New Jersey firefighter was killed in the line of duty while searching for missing children in an apartment fire in Passaic.
05/09/01Still working, at least it is not raining. The never-ending list of things to do seems to be getting smaller. Now we are hoping there will be enough water in the river on the scheduled launch date, May 16th. This month the tides appear to be lower then normal, too low of a high tide and we can't launch the boat!

I guess it was just too much commotion around the boat yard, it appears the baby Morning Dove's parents “flew the coup” and abandoned their chick, and the baby dove died.

04/29/01Last week I took several pictures of the Liberty II, an old Scalloper that has been tied up in Shark River. Below are "before & after" pictures.

04/26/01Our Morning Dove family grew by one in the past days. 1 egg hatched and the other one looks like it might be bad.
04/19/012nd panel was glued in today. These panels will go a long why towards keeping the "Sea" from coming in when we are running in a "head sea". Lobster wars are "heating up"

04/18/01I separated the photo gallery page, adding the lobster pics to a separate page.
Added photos of the Morning Doves, RT. 35 Bridge Construction, Yacht Club construction and front window repairs.
04/17/01Managed to get one fiberglass panel glued in before the rain. Three  days so far removing and cleaning up the frames and gluing the one panel in.
04/09/01Work has begun. Although were not going in for another month or so, the slow process of maintenance and repairs has started. Check back for updates & to check the progress on the "Morning Dove" family that moved in several weeks ago.
04/09/01The Wall NJROTC team is back from Florida and had a great experience. Placing about 15th out of 24 teams. This was an excellent showing for their first ever "National" competition. Check back in the future for pictures and more info.
03/30/01Added 1 picture to the Edison page. This is why you should never clean your tools with gasoline, especially in the garage! Heathcote
03/27/01Got my props back today. This year they took a bigger then normal "beating". The North channel really needs to be dredged. The river seems to be even worse this year.
03/02/01Ocean Wreck Divers Dive Club will be holding their annual SCUBA flea market this weekend on Sunday in Toms River.
02/09/01Rachel (my future Captain) was delegated to put up a website for her NJROTC unit. Here it is Wall NJROTC
